Week # 5: Assignment #3 Gaming and Literacy: Creating a script and powerpoint for your game

Assignment#3   Use your creativity and imagination, write a game scenario/script for your game design and use narrated PPT or Jing Project (no more than 5 minutes) to present your game scenario/script (you could use image to enhance your game story). Week #5: Assignment #2 Games in classroom Philosophy

Assignment #2   Write a brief statement on your philosophy of using games in the classrooms (from the teacher and the learner's point of view).          By playing games, students learn by understanding a new concept or idea, take on a different perspective or experiment with different options or variables. For instance, in a classroom where students are divided into small groups, each group is set with a different objective on what to do in their particular group from the instructor depending on the lesson. In return, students are able to communicate and solve problems together by using ideas from the students’ different perspectives in the groups. These groups may include playing games as well, where students who are interested in playing games instead of the teacher initiated classroom instruction, are more motivated to learn based on their increase of interest in the game. Common Core Standards video response understanding

Watch   Common Core for ELA and Literacy video   and discuss your understanding of Common Core (one good paragraph).            The Common Core is a set of standards that is used as a guide for students to achieve in core subjects that meets their expectations. The Common Core standards in the past varied from state to state and later became a problem when the “No Child Behind” law held states accountable for their student’s education and if their expectations were met. When these same students would transfer to schools that were located in another state, some students had to take remedial courses because they were below that state’s expectations. The Common Core is broken into four categories: reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language with a scaffolding of college and career readiness anchor standards defining what kids should know and be ready to become successful in college and on the job.
