When is comes to the Reading portion of the Common
Core standards grade 6-12, the teacher is responsible for covering two content
area-specific sections which is English Language Arts and History/Social
Studies, Science, and technical subjects. Each section follows the same Common
Core Readiness Anchor Standards but grade specific standards are included. On
the other hands, grades K-5 list standards for reading, writing, listening, and
language across the curriculum and reflecting that most of the instruction comes
from one teacher. The purpose of this course EDLA 615 is to learn how to
incorporate technology towards teaching and learning while following the
guidelines for the Common Core Standards. One the key features of the standards
is reading, which covers the text complexity and the ability to comprehend and
the application to comprehension that can be used in the real world. With this
key feature of reading, students develop the skills of reading from simple to complex
text and the increasing complexity that rises overtime from beginning to
college and career readiness reading.
When it comes to the writing portion of the key
features of the standards, this portion focuses on the text types, responding
to text, and research. There are different writing skills that’s have to be
developed overtime which includes the ability to plan, revise, edit, publish argumentative
writing types, explanatory text, and narratives. In addition, writing-reading
connection is important to cover by requiring students to anaylize and provide textual
evidence from literary and informational text.
With the speaking and listening portion of the Common Core key features, this portion focuses on flexible communication and collaboration which includes skills for formal presentations. These skills are necessary for formal
presentations and to develop useful oral communication and interpersonal
skills. In this feature students must work together, listen and express their
ideas, integrate information from text, media, oral, visual, and quantitative
displays to achieve communicative purposes. In this case students can use audio
to create podcast or story telling using communicative skills and by
integrating technology oral and visual media sources can be useful to produce communicative
skills.
The
last feature of the standards if the language, whereas this portion focuses on
conventions, effective use, and vocabulary. When it comes to integrating technology
in this section, there are electronics that are useful in enhancing the skills
of students when it comes to their vocabulary. The vocabulary standards focuses
on understanding words and phrases, their relationships, and their nuances and on
learning new vocabulary.
